Two things persuaded me: (1) the comments about using it in blustery weather; and (2) the appearance. It has coped well with the gusts I've encountered and is straightforward to use. The green is a cheerful sight when everything else outside looks rather grey and dreary.

Oh I love having this umbrella!
Oh I love having this umbrella! it was on my christmas list and my husband got it for me. I just thought the green would be such a fun colour to carry about. It seems really nicely made, and once it's open there's enough over me that I don't feel squeezed underneath it. Also it makes going out in the rain a little more cheerful, which sounds silly but there it is. Only thing i've noticed (not really a complaint) is the odd water mark showing up, so I give it a wipe now and then. lol.

O clouds, assemble!
O clouds, assemble! Beat your drums above the roofs! Let gutters chatter, let the pavement shine, and send your little rivers racing down the street! What care I for your watery theatrics, your gloomy curtains drawn across the day?I have my modest roof, borne in one hand, and shall proceed with dignity!--Or, less dramatically, this umbrella kept me dry on a wet walk and I am pleased.

Came pretty quickly and looked cute when I opened it.
Came pretty quickly and looked cute when I opened it. The loop shaped handle wasnt quite the look I had in mind, but it was easy enough to hold and I was only using it for photos anyway. Up close the fabric had more fold lines than I expected. I didnt love that, though they hardly showed in the pictures. Turned it around a little so the side I liked best faced the camera and that was fine. Reasonable price. It did what I needed it to do.
Benjamin Sanders
Very decent umbrella.
Very decent umbrella. For the money I expected something a little flimsy, but it feels more substantial than that. I've had mine about a month and am happy with what I paid. The handle is comfortable, the fabric seems decent and it works as it should. Pressing the button to get it open is convenient. There's a carry sleeve included too. That's probably the plainest part of the whole thing, not anything special, but it holds the folded umbrella neatly enough and makes it easier to put away. It arrived towards the early end of the delivery estimate and the packing protected it well. Overall I think it was money well spent.

The construction has impressed me, it feels solid rather than flimsy.
The construction has impressed me, it feels solid rather than flimsy. It has also coped well when there's been some wind with the rain. I find the button easy to use and the canopy folds down neatly with it. One thing for anyone trying it, leave plenty of space because it opens fast! I've actually had several people I don't know comment on how nice it looks, which was a pleasant surprise. I feel I got good value for my money.
Bruce Lawrence
This one gives me good coverage without being awkward to carry.
Walking everywhere means an umbrella gets used a lot (shopping, appointments, all of it). This one gives me good coverage without being awkward to carry. It looks smart and feels sturdy, rather than like something I'll have to replace after a few wet outings. Much more confidence carrying this than my old one. Love it!
April Kline
The loop makes it handy to carry too.
Love having this for the walk from my office to the parking lot! Several blocks in the Texas sun is much nicer with a bit of shade. Opens quickly, and once folded it slips back into the sleeve without a fight. The loop makes it handy to carry too. A simple thing that's made that walk far more pleasant!
Cassidy Hahn
It's been out a few times now and has coped well with those gusts.
I needed an umbrella for walking between buildings, where the wind always seems to catch you. It's been out a few times now and has coped well with those gusts. I noticed the weight straight away, but holding it up hasn't bothered me as much as I expected. My only wish would be a simple shoulder strap for the dry parts of the walk....the loop is handy, but it's not quite the same as having both hands free. Still looking for a way round that.
Ariel Roy
They seem worth spending a little extra on.
My second one of these. They seem worth spending a little extra on. I pictured something bigger, even though the size was there for me to read and I could have checked properly. Still, I am keeping it. Easier to bring this along than a full length umbrella, so the smaller size will probably get more use.
Adrienne Spence
It's handled the breezier days well too.
Keeping this in my backpack for the walk to class has been a good decision. Ohio weather never seems to make its mind up, and I'm glad not to be caught out so often now. Opens quickly, covers me nicely and isn't difficult to steer around other people. It's handled the breezier days well too. For what I paid, the construction feels really decent. Nothing fancy needed, just a reliable umbrella for getting where I'm going without getting soaked.
Randall Buckley
It looks lovely, but I'm more impressed by how sturdy it feels.
Made the trip to work and back in chicago rain and wind with barely any wet clothes. It looks lovely, but I'm more impressed by how sturdy it feels. I've had other umbrellas give up straight away, so this was a welcome change. It also sits at a height where I can still see ahead!
Sonya Lucas
This has made being outside feel a little more possible again.
This has made being outside feel a little more possible again. A sun allergy is something I'm still adjusting to, especially after always being a woman who loved spending time outdoors. I still have to take my usual precautions, but having some shade to carry with me makes a difference. The umbrella looks lovely and has been sturdy in use, with no problems so far. It also keeps rain off properly and pops open quickly, which I appreciate.
Mary Baker
Very happy with it for the money!
Been searching for a folding umbrella that didn't feel flimsy, and this one is just what I wanted! Looked at quite a few before deciding on it. The blue is a lovely colour and the size suits me well. It's already been out in the rain several times and has felt reassuringly solid each time. Very happy with it for the money!
Alyssa Avila
Sooo pleased with this umbrella!
Sooo pleased with this umbrella! i haven't had rain to try it in yet, but it's been great for shade and fine in a breeze. heavier than a tiny bag umbrella, not as heavy as a big one. pressing the button is easy, then you compress the pole yourself after closing the canopy. it does make a loud snap though. my cat wants nothing to do with it.
Ethan Bolton
Good practical umbrella and I'd recommend it!!!
This umbrella has been excellent on the course. Feels strong, gives me decent cover and is simple to open and put away. Definitely worth a look!My one doubt was the gray when I first unpacked it. I wasn't sure it was a color I would go for, seeing it in person. Once we got caught in rain during a round I stopped thinking about that altogether. The others could still pick me out under it without any trouble.Good practical umbrella and I'd recommend it!!!

Green was my choice and I'm glad I picked it.
When I started shopping for an umbrella, I hadn't really thought about how much difference automatic opening would make. There always seems to be something in my other hand when the rain starts! I've had push-button umbrellas before, and this one has that same convenience, with a surprisingly substantial canopy for something that packs away fairly small.
My 10 year old was interested in the size and held it sideways to compare it with our heights. At about 105cm across when open, it gives a useful amount of cover without being one of those enormous umbrellas you have to find room for everywhere.
Getting out of the minivan with a baby in an infant seat, plus the diaper bag, purse and a canvas bag of awards, was exactly the situation I had in mind. Having it open with a press instead of needing both hands to get it ready made that rainy unloading job much less of a production. It can't cover every bag sticking out in every direction, but it did the job I needed.
I've also carried it in some blustery rain and it has felt reassuringly sturdy. The oval handle has been comfortable during longer stretches of holding it, including watching baseball in the rain.
Green was my choice and I'm glad I picked it. All together, a useful umbrella that I'd recommend, and something I'd consider for those relatives who already seem to have everything.
Roberta Barr
Apart from that small wish, it's been a good umbrella for those games!
Needed something for sitting through evening games in the rain without having to miss what's going on. I can angle this above my eyeline and still watch the field, which works well. A bit more coverage over my knees would be nice when I'm sitting down. Apart from that small wish, it's been a good umbrella for those games!
Nicole Mendez
Happy to recommend.
Appreciate the button operation, both opening and collapsing the canopy. Pushing the shaft back in is manual. Better than a basic folding umbrella overall. Would prefer a wrist strap as well as the loop handle. The price seems fair for the build quality. Happy to recommend.
Gwendolyn Martinez
This has been good on blustery wet days and gives useful cover.
Living somewhere that gets rain coming at you from an angle, I appreciate an umbrella that feels steady in my hand. This has been good on blustery wet days and gives useful cover. It's not the tiniest thing to keep in a bag, so I tend to take it when rain is forecast, but I'd rather that than carry something that feels flimsy.
Claire Landry
It has a bit of weight and isn't the shortest compact umbrella around.
I've come back for a second umbrella after keeping my previous one for ten years. The canopy gives me good coverage without being huge, and the button is convenient for opening it and closing the fabric. You still slide the shaft down yourself afterward. I had a curved wooden handle before, which I liked, so the oval loop on this one is a change -- not uncomfortable, just different from the old style. It seems solid and I think the price is fair for something I expect to use a lot. Anyone wanting a tiny umbrella to tuck into a little pocket should check the folded size first. It has a bit of weight and isn't the shortest compact umbrella around.
Norman Wise
It feels strong, and a little wind hasn't bothered it.
Finding an umbrella that doesn't leave my bags sticking out in the rain has been a bit of a mission. I usually have a stuffed backpack AND a purse with me, so just keeping my head dry isn't enough. This gives me enough cover to keep those tucked underneath along with my hands. Another person can squeeze in if we walk close, though I mostly use it by myself. It feels strong, and a little wind hasn't bothered it.Walking in the rain is enjoyable again instead of worrying about wet bags the whole time. More than I'd usually spend, but I'm glad I did.
Warren Brewer
We're delighted that she enjoys it so much.
An umbrella was on my daughter's Christmas list, as we get plenty of rain here, and this was the one we chose. At two and a half she wants it along whatever the weather. I help her use it, but she loves having her own. It's nicely made and still looks adorable despite being taken everywhere. We're delighted that she enjoys it so much.
Jim Fields
You need a decent grip with this one.
You need a decent grip with this one. Not because it's enormous, but a gust gets a surprising amount of pull on the canopy. I mean it feels solid and keeps the rain off, just heavier in the hand than I expected. Fine for short stretches but hold it for a while and your wrist knows about it
Glenn Everett
This one feels much better.
Bought this back in December and it's nearly June now, still opening as it should which is good. Our earlier children's umbrellas never felt very substantial. This one feels much better. My 5 year old is happy carrying it and is forever opening it up just for fun, and it still feels solid when we use it.
Calvin Giles
Well worth the money, it feels like a proper piece of gear.
Well worth the money, it feels like a proper piece of gear. No really strong winds to judge it by yet, but the frame seems more substantial than my previous umbrellas. The folded size is reasonable for carrying, and the opening action feels positive rather than flimsy. Happy with the quality, and I expect to get plenty of use out of it.
Isabella Powell
She can work the button herself, which she likes.
My little girl is six and a little taller than average, and she manages this umbrella comfortably. It gives her plenty of cover without being awkward for her to hold. She can work the button herself, which she likes. We've used it a few times now and the fabric and frame still look good.

People used to tease me about taking an umbrella backpacking...
People used to tease me about taking an umbrella backpacking...then we'd get an afternoon shower and suddenly it seemed like a very good idea! Several friends have ended up wanting one. Here in western North Carolina the rain often passes fairly quickly, and I hated watching everyone stop, unpack waterproofs, get all hot, then stop again to take them off. I reach round to the side of my pack, press the button and carry on. Sometimes I tuck the handle behind my chest strap so I don't have to keep a hand on it...covers me and the top of my pack nicely. Much cooler than being wrapped in rain gear. I sleep under a tarp at night and keep it by my head for rain coming in at the edge. No soggy jacket to wrestle with afterwards...the people who laughed are usually asking about it now!

My situation: I have lupus.
My situation: I have lupus.Shade matters to me, but I did NOT want to lug around something the size of a beach umbrella! This opens to a useful size without being ridiculous, and I can actually carry it folded without feeling encumbered. The blue is a proper everyday colour, not too showy, and I like the contrast with the black underneath, It's pleasant to look at as well as useful.I've seen people judge an umbrella by whether the frame feels completely rigid... WHY? A little flexibility doesn't bother me, I want something comfortable to hold, not a fence post! For sitting or walking out of direct sunshine this has suited me nicely.Only thing I would change is the carrying arrangement when I'm not using it. The loop is handy, but sometimes I just wish I could have both hands free.
Connie Macias
The gray looks really nice, with the black on the underneath.
This umbrella is VERY pretty - I bought it for my youngest to give her some shade. The gray looks really nice, with the black on the underneath. It ALSO has a sleeve to put it into, so it isn't just loose when she's carrying it. The button opens it, and pressing again folds the canopy, THEN you push the shaft back down by hand. Took a moment to get that order right. A little expensive, but it feels like a nice purchase for her.
Elaine Aguirre
Strangers often say how nice it looks when I'm out with it.
Using an umbrella for shade became a habit when I lived in Asia, after seeing the women in Seoul doing it. This cream white one has that pretty, feminine look I enjoy. Strangers often say how nice it looks when I'm out with it. Simple rather than decorated, which suits me.
Valerie Larsen
The shade is the other big difference.
My previous umbrella was meant to be useful for sunny walks, but too much light came through it and the whole thing felt rather flimsy. This one feels a lot more substantial. The fabric seems securely attached around the ends of the ribs, an area I tend to notice when checking how an umbrella is made. A reassuring start. The shade is the other big difference. With this overhead I'm not squinting at light coming through the fabric, and standing underneath feels more comfortable than being out in the direct sun. That was the main reason for buying it, so I'm happy.Opening is straightforward with the button, and another press brings the canopy in. You push the shaft down yourself to finish putting it away. All quite simple. It doesn't give quite the spread of my old golf umbrella, but the smaller folded package makes that a reasonable trade. I enjoy walking my dog and want some relief from the sun while we are out. For that purpose, it has been a very good purchase.
Mason Douglas
Photos don't really do it justice.
This is an OUTSTANDING umbrella, the look and the build are both better in person. Photos don't really do it justice. There are so many ribs underneath and the whole thing feels substantial without looking clunky, not something I'd expect to turn inside out easily.I am impressed with the style and how solid it feels, would absolutely recommend it.
Melanie Weeks
Six months in, I'm happy I did.
Cheap umbrellas never felt up to the windy walk, so I decided to spend a bit more on something substantial. Six months in, I'm happy I did. It has coped well when the weather turns breezy. The cream white is lovely, too. The oval loop is a useful detail; I can keep a finger through it while shifting my purse strap, instead of having to set the umbrella down for a moment.
Benjamin Austin
It isn't the lightest thing to lug about, but I still LOVE it.
My first opinion of this went up far too soon, after barely a week. Nearly two years on, I can say I actually USE the thing. Everyday sun in Florida is no joke...and this black brellie comes along with me! It isn't the lightest thing to lug about, but I still LOVE it. Having some shade over my head makes being outside much nicer. It's been out in rain and windy weather too, not just carried around looking useful. Yes, more than I usually spend on an umbrella---but I'd spend it again. Florida heat (yup, that again) has made me appreciate a bit of portable shade rather a lot. Give your squinting face a break and take one along!
Wyatt Ramsey
Good size, good feel, nice looking too!
For the money this gives me the combination I want, button opening and button folding of the canopy, without carrying one of those long bulky (thick) umbrellas. The shaft pushes back down by hand. Good size, good feel, nice looking too!I haven't actually opened this new one yet (RATING IS FOR MY PREVIOUS ONE), but I liked the one I managed to leave behind so replacing it wasn't a big decision. For what it does I still call it AFFORDABLE and it has what I need. That button makes bringing the canopy down before getting into the car SO MUCH EASIER!!!
Alex Kirby
Small enough to live in a bag.
It is useful.
Not much burden to carry.
Small enough to live in a bag.
Good on a rainy day, or one of those days that is poop and urine anyway.
There are some inconveniences.
The button opens the umbrella and closes the canopy.
Then the shaft still needs pushing down by hand.
You must remember this part.
Putting the fabric neatly together is more work than pressing the button.
Not terrible, just a little troublesome.
It does not become tiny when folded.
Even so, for carrying about it is good and
I would choose it at a reasonable price.
Rain stays above me as it should.
The underneath is black.
For summer shade this is also useful.
So it is not only for wet weather.
Overall useful, only packing away needs some attention.
Colton Scott
Feels sturdy and properly put together.
It's a BIG spread once opened. A little more umbrella than I need for a light drizzle, but nice when the rain gets serious. Feels sturdy and properly put together. My gripe is the folded length; it's compact, just not one of those tiny ones that disappear in a bag, so I do have to think about where to carry it.

This was a gift for my daughters boyfriend.
This was a gift for my daughters boyfriend. He walks to work in NYC, and the wind there can be pretty fierce when it rains. From what he tells me it's handling both very well. Says it's his favorite Christmas gift, and he's even taken to calling the umbrella by a nickname.
Carlos Lloyd
This umbrella has been brilliant.
This umbrella has been brilliant. Went shopping in the rain around the outdoor stores and it made things so much easier. I had shopping bags. my purse as well, and still managed to get it open with the button instead of wrestling with everything. Press again and the canopy folds, then I push the pole down before going inside. It's great. I don't know what anyone else's experience has been but mine feels sturdy. The ribs have some give to them and I haven't had it flip on me. I'm delighted with the one that turned up.
Cathy Schwartz
Easy to pop open when needed.
Ordered around a dozen for the staff doing bus duty at school. (Go team!) There's enough cover for a supervisor with a child tucked alongside. They feel a little weighty for their size, and I'd keep them for normal rain rather than very blustery weather. The beige is as pictured. Easy to pop open when needed.Staff have been pleased to have them around instead of getting soaked waiting by the buses.
Shelley Massey
Glad I spent the extra, he's happy and so am I!
I did wonder if it was worth the money at first but my son was so keen to have his own umbrella I went ahead with it. This one is GREAT! The oval loop handle is a nice touch, and it feels like a sturdy umbrella rather than just something cute. Glad I spent the extra, he's happy and so am I! :-)

My grandson was thrilled to get his umbrella at Christmas.
My grandson was thrilled to get his umbrella at Christmas. He's just 4 and its easy for him to work the button. The size seems right for him too. He spent the whole afternoon carrying it about. He really does love having his own umbrella to take out when it rains.
Gerald Bowen
We call it our instant roof.
Folded up this looks like an ordinary compact umbrella, then one press and suddenly there's a proper canopy over you. We call it our instant roof. The button is what sells this thing to me. It pops open quickly and another press pulls the canopy shut; you finish by compressing the shaft yourself. After getting used to that, wrestling a manual umbrella is not appealing. Try the button action a few times at home so you know what to expect, then enjoy having decent cover without carrying a long stick everywhere.
Jody Alexander
I don't get why more people don't pick a solid one.
I've carried this for years and it still earns its place by the door. Working downtown, I see plenty of people struggling with umbrellas when the streets get blustery. I don't get why more people don't pick a solid one. Mine just comes out, does its job, and comes home with me. No complaints so far.
Priscilla Weiss
The blue looks fresh and cheerful.
The blue looks fresh and cheerful. button opening is quick and a second press folds the canopy, then you push the pole down yourself. ribs have some give rather than feeling brittle. rain rolls off nicely, handle is comfortable and the cover is a useful size. folds small enough to bring along without making a whole project of it!

Living in Los Angeles, I spend a lot of time looking for shade.
Living in Los Angeles, I spend a lot of time looking for shade. I'm very sensitive to sunshine, even when I'm careful about putting sunblock on. This umbrella makes being outside much more comfortable, and I still use my sunblock. I like it a lot. I once had an umbrella taken at airport security because of the metal frame, so I'm not assuming compact means it can go anywhere! For everyday use this suits me nicely. The fact that it handles a rainy day as well is a bonus.
Javier Shields
A good umbrella in my opinion.
I have had a chance to use this umbrella for a while now. It's handled the wind I've met without any trouble. Some comments made me expect something heavy, but honestly it seems a normal weight to me; the old one I carried weighed more. The handle is a closed loop, not the shape I'm used to, or whatever you call those handles, but I don't really think about it once I'm walking. A good umbrella in my opinion.
Parker Waller
This one made a good first impression.
My wife went to see her family for a week and left me with the house to myself. So naturally I spent part of an evening browsing umbrellas. There are probably more exciting things a grown man could do, but apparently this was mine.
The reason was a walk home that ended with me rather wet despite having a little umbrella. Our alternative was an enormous golf umbrella, which seemed excessive for carrying to work. I hadn't previously given much thought to what an umbrella looked like. Now I was comparing them, trying to find something reasonably smart without being so eye-catching that somebody at work might take a liking to it.
This one made a good first impression. Packed away, it is fairly slim and feels manageable to carry. It goes into its cover neatly enough, too. Once I took it out, the oval loop handle was the first obvious difference from my old ones. The opening arrangement was another. A press of the button puts the canopy up, and pressing it again draws the canopy closed. Quite satisfying, actually. I'm not going to pretend I understand the engineering or whether all those ribs make the difference, but it behaved well in the gusty weather the following day.
There seems to be more useful space underneath than with my little umbrella. I haven't had a proper soaking downpour to judge it against yet, so whether my trouser legs will fare any better remains to be seen. At least my shoulders don't feel as exposed.
The black suits me. Nothing particularly showy, just a smart-looking umbrella. This is already considerably more than I ever expected to write about one. My wife remains amused at both the amount of thought and the money involved. I was pleased with my choice.
Update after a few weeks:
Putting it away is the part I find less impressive. I'd rather optimistically taken automatic closing to mean it would shrink itself right down. The canopy closes with the button, but you still have to compress the telescoping shaft yourself. That's the normal operation, not something going wrong; it just isn't quite the single-action business I had pictured. Gathering the fabric neatly enough for the sleeve also takes a little patience. Opening it feels effortless, whereas packing it away is more of a small job.
For that reason I've settled on four stars rather than five. It still does what I wanted in the rain, and the unusual handle has prompted a couple of favourable comments. No regrets about replacing the little one.
Sheryl Petersen
The umbrella itself feels nicely made and covers me well in rain.
My three stars are more about preference than a fault. The button does open it and pull the canopy closed, which is handy, but that doesn't mean the whole thing shrinks down by itself. You have to press the telescoping sections back together afterwards. That is how it is meant to work, I just hadn't thought about that part. My kids still hand it to me to pack away, and my wife finds that last push a little awkward too. I'd rather have something that feels easier for everyone to finish closing. The umbrella itself feels nicely made and covers me well in rain. It's a decent umbrella, just not quite the effortless family option I was hoping I had found.
